Over the past couple of years, TikTok has become one of the most used social media platforms around the world. The platform has grown immensely since it first launched and now businesses everywhere are looking to get in on the action, but where do you start?
TikTok has helped many businesses become huge successes, it only takes one viral video to get your products out there and from there the TikTok community does the rest of the work for you.
What most people and brands get wrong about TikTok is thinking that there is a foolproof way for their videos to go viral. The majority of viral videos have been accidental. There is no sure way to guarantee your videos or account take off. However, there are some tactics you can use to help your brand get there.
Influencer marketing is a huge part of the app’s ecosystem. You may have heard of the bigger TikTok stars such as Charlie D’Amelio, Addison Rae and Zach King (If you haven’t don’t worry). Tens of millions of users watch their content daily, and working with them could skyrocket your business.
However, you don’t need a high-profile influencer to boost your views, anyone could go viral with your products, so a great way is to discover rising stars or go for influencers in your niche. For instance, if you are trying to promote your make-up brand the best influencers to look for would be beauty gurus. Just search #MakeUpTutorials and you’ll find the influencers you’re looking for.
CREATING YOUR OWN TIKTOK’S
The best way to get your brand out there is to simply start posting! Create a business account and get started. It’s that simple. TikTok videos don’t need to be perfect and whilst quality is important, you could spend hundreds trying to get the best camera and still only get 10 views. What is important is the type of content you are putting out there and how it relates to your brand.
Here are a couple of tips when it comes to making your videos:
- Keep an eye on trending videos and sounds. Jumping on trends is a great way to get views, you’ll have a better chance of getting on the FYP (for you page) by using a trending sound. So, if you find a popular sound make sure to save it for later.
- Take some time to scroll through your FYP and see what others are posting for inspiration. Even follow similar brands and see what has worked for them.
- Don’t try to cram too much in the video or the caption, when it comes to TikTok the simpler the video the better.
- Maximize the first few moments, TikTok moves fast. If the first few seconds of your video aren’t engaging, they’ll swipe up. Grab attention and show the value of watching in those first few seconds.
TikTok’s algorithm is fairly simple, the FYP recommends content based on several factors including:
- Which accounts you follow
- Comments you’ve posted
- Videos you have liked or shared on the app
- Videos added to your favourites
- The content you create on your account
It’s all based on user interactions, anything that offers clues about the content the user likes or doesn’t like.
HOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ALGORITHM
The first thing you can do is switch to a Pro account. TikTok offers two types of pro accounts on whether you are a creator or a business. Having a Pro account won’t automatically get your videos on the FYP, but it’s still an important part of using the algorithm.
It gives you access to metrics and insights that can guide your TikTok strategy. You’ll find out who your audience is, when they are active and what kind of content they enjoy. This is critical if you want to create engaging content to keep them interested.
The next thing is to find your subculture, most viewers spend the majority of their time on the FYP and less time interacting with who they already follow. If you can tap into an existing community or subculture, you’re more likely to find the right audience. The best way to do this is to use specific hashtags such as #CottageCore, #FitTok, #BookTok etc. No matter what your niche is there will be a group for it!
On every social platform, you have the option to promote your content with Ads. TikTok is no different, you can pay for TikTok to promote your videos on the FYP and how much you spend will decide how many people could see your video.
Letting your videos go viral organically is more recommended though, again you can’t guarantee your videos will go viral even if you do pay for Ads. Sure, it will help but again it’s not guaranteed. Although Ads can be a great way to get people to view your profile.
Once you acquire over 1000 followers, you will be prompted with the option to join TikTok Shop. This is a fairly new feature the platform has added but it has already skyrocketed.
Brands can connect TikTok shop directly to their profile and allow their audience to buy their products straight from the app. This is also a great way to get your brand and products out there as many users make videos showing TikTok shop products they have found. This will also help you reach influencers who can help promote your brand.
If you have your own business TikTok is the best platform to promote it on. It can boost your brand in so many ways so if you haven’t taken the leap yet now is the time!
